Conor McGregor says the internet got his face wrong. According to MiddleEasy, McGregor disputed footage filmed in Rome that supposedly caught his reaction to Colby Covington getting choked out by Raul Rosas Jr. on Nov. 3, saying the clip misrepresented how he actually responded. MiddleEasy’s report doesn’t carry his exact wording.
The clip came from Spinnin Backfist, which posted on X that “Conor McGregor was dying laughing after Raul Rosas subbed Colby Covington.” McGregor’s position is that the video doesn’t show what that caption claims. Nobody has produced anything beyond the footage and his denial, so the claim that he was laughing at Covington is unproven.
The loss itself was rough on the stopwatch. Covington met Rosas Jr. in a submission-only grappling match at Hype Italy and tapped to a rear-naked choke in 43 seconds. MMA Orbit and Happy Punch both rounded it to 40 seconds in their posts that night. Either number stings for a guy who had been rolling through Real American Freestyle. Covington is a former interim UFC welterweight champion and went 17-5 in MMA. In RAF he beat Luke Rockhold, Dillon Danis and Chris Weidman. Then he took the inaugural Cruiserweight Crossover title from Arman Tsarukyan in July and defended it against Belal Muhammad on Sept. 19 by technical fall in the second round. That’s five straight wins followed by 43 seconds of regret, the kind of result that makes anyone who bet on him stare at the ceiling for a while.

McGregor (22-7) sits at No. 25 at welterweight in Knockout Daily’s rankings, and his last fight is logged on July 11, 2026. He’s the biggest pay-per-view draw the sport has ever produced, having headlined the five highest-selling UFC PPV events, and he’s been talking business. Two days before the Rosas match, Championship Rounds posted a clip of McGregor saying, “I’m going to actually try to sell the fight for my next one. My final fight. See what numbers I can generate.”

That’s why a 10-second viral clip gets a response at all. A man planning to promote a farewell fight has an obvious reason to keep his name away from a story about mocking another fighter’s worst night. No opponent or date for that final bout has been announced. Until one is, McGregor will be explaining every frame of video he shows up in.
