Canelo Alvarez gets his shot at the WBC super middleweight title Saturday, Oct. 31, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against Christian Mbilli, the undefeated champion. The whole card streams on DAZN. The preliminary card starts at 10 a.m. ET, the main card follows at 2 p.m. ET, and MMA Fighting expects the main event walkouts around 4:30 p.m. ET. That’s a long Saturday on the couch, so plan snacks accordingly.
Both men made weight Friday with room to spare. Canelo came in at 167.6 pounds and Mbilli at 167.8, which Turki Alalshikh posted on X along with the ceremonial weigh-in stream. Yahoo is billing the event as “Mexico vs. the World,” which is a big name to hang on a card where Mbilli is the one holding the belt.
How Mbilli Ended Up With the Belt
This title has had an odd year. Terence Crawford beat Canelo by unanimous decision in September 2025 and took the WBC belt along with others. Canelo exercised his rematch clause, and Crawford retired anyway. With Crawford gone and a planned Mbilli fight against Hamzah Sheeraz falling apart, Mbilli was upgraded to undisputed status, according to MMA Fighting.

Mbilli (29-0-1) picked up the interim belt with a first-round knockout of Maciej Sulecki. His first defense, against Lester Martinez on the Canelo vs. Crawford undercard, ended in a split draw. That draw is the one blemish on an otherwise spotless record.
Canelo (63-3-2) is chasing the title for the 69th fight of a career that started 21 years ago. At the weigh-ins he said, via translation, “This is very important for me. I’ve been doing this for the last 21 years. I won my first title 16 years ago, so it’s very important for me to be here to take that title and obviously get back into that world championship corner.” He added, “So tomorrow, I’m going to teach him exactly what it is to face somebody like me.”
Mbilli wasn’t handing out compliments. “Tomorrow night I’m going to beat him everywhere. Best conditioning, best punch, best technique, I’m going to put all my 100 percent on my fight,” he said, before calling it “The fight of the decade, the fight of the year.”

My take: everybody keeps saying “undefeated champion” like it’s a force field. Mbilli’s last real test against a live opponent was a split draw with Martinez, and he got the undisputed tag because Crawford retired, not because he beat anyone for it. Canelo has 68 pro fights of tape, and the man who beat him last is gone. Mbilli says he’ll win on conditioning, and if he’s right it shows up in Rounds 9 through 12. If he’s wrong, a 29-0-1 record becomes 29-1-1 a little after 5 p.m. Eastern.
